What is EBITDA

EBITDA is by definition "Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization", where the word "before" should be interpreted as "PLUS".  Earnings are pretax income and the others are self-explanatory.

By comparison, seller's discretionary earnings are equal to EBITDA plus Owner compensation.
